I was naughty yesterday! Yep, went to the fabric shop again… I saw this pale silvery blue dupioni last week and it’s been haunting me ever since – I knew it had to be the cover of my stays. So I bought some of that and some cute striped cotton for the lining:
It’s not quite a purplish as it looks in that picture, but it is a slightly purply blue shot with white so it really gleams and can look very pale one minute, then quite dark the next. It’s lovely.
The only problem now is binding – I was planning on going for a bright pink like that fashion plate I’ve posted before, but they didn’t have the right colour in the right weight of fabric, only drill, which is far too stiff and thick.
I was rushing around in my lunch break, so didn’t have much time to really look and think about it. When I got back to work, I did realise that I could have gone for a very light grey, a silvery kind of tone (but not sparkly), so hopefully they’ll have something like that. I’m not a big fan of white, so really don’t want to have to go for that…
My mum’s coming over in a couple of weeks’ time and we’re going to Chichester, where there’s another fabric shop that I’ve never been in, so they might have something. (Although they look rather more expensive than I’m used to.)
I’ve had suggestions of a deep amethyst or chocolate brown from some of the lovely gentlewomen of the Historical Sewing Forum, both of which I think would work, so I have a few options. Any other ideas for good colours would be greatly appreciated – if I have enough choices, I should be able to find something suitable! (Famous last words!)
EDIT: Here are better pics of the fabric taken in daylight:
This is much closer to the actual colour.
