Clare:
I am a former professional costume designer, turned professional art and design writer, still lavishing my costume fetish on outrageous 18th century baroque costumes. I’ve enjoyed reading your blog.
I also have a blog on second hand shopping and costume design: secondhandsecondthoughts.blogspot.com. I haven’t put up any photos of my 18th century pieces but I will soon.
I’d like to connect my blog to yours. Interested in an exchange? You can google my name for samples of my writing, if you wish. (Sarah F K Coble will get you there.)

Hi Sarah.
Thanks a lot for your link and message! I’m more than happy to link back – I love second hand shops and costumes, so your blog is right up my street. You’re now on my blogroll over to the right.

I am enjoying your work! I am a late-learning sewing amateur (didn’t learn out to follow a pattern until I was 40) and I’m currently assembling my third Marie Antoinette ensemble- the first was in 99 and doesn’t bear description, the second a big silver and white thing in 2006 and now, I chose Dead Marie and it’s black, gold and a pain in the butt. Wonderful to see someone else striving with the process. Thanks.
Hello and thank you, Jane! It’s fab to hear from someone else having fun with Marie Antoinette costumes. I’d love to see pics if you have a blog or a website? Good luck!
Aaah, Louis de Pointe du Lac… the only vampire worth living forever for!
You know it!! Though I wouldn’t say no to Lestat … or both …
Louis with Brad’s face… I hate Tom Cruise too much to appreciate Lestat!

Hi Adley! Thanks a lot for the visit and comment. Wow – three MA outfits?! I’m impressed! I wish I had events to go to for mine, though I have decided that my birthday will be a masked party, so that’s one excuse, at least …
Hello Clare!
I’m a french student at La Rochelle’s uni (not far from Bordeaux, on the atlantic coast) and i’m in my one but final year as a student in heritage, culture and tourism.
I’m fond of english culture or i must say i’m trying to learn a lot about victorian era…
I discovered the world of Jane Austen in Australia isn’t that weird?! Since then i’m trying to collect antique books of her writing etc.
My last folly? I just bought a writing slope similar to yours and while i was looking for more informations when Google googled your ebony writing slope you bought in june!
Yours and mine are really really similar except that mine needs lots of restoration and will look like yours in a long time!
I was wondering how you know it’s a regency era work? I get a bit lost with english furnitures styles! As you may know we in France do have too a regency style but much different and not at all at the same era.
Great work with this blog, i find it really interesting, too bad i don’t sew!
Have a nice day,
Ori
Hello Oriane! (What a lovely name!)
Many thanks for your visit and lovely comment and apologies for the late reply – as you can probably guess from my lack of blogging, I’ve been horribly busy lately.
Sounds like you’ve gathered lots of interests from all around the word – I’m most curious about how you came across Jane Austen in Australia!!
I hope you plan to post some pictures of your restoration project – it would be fascinating to see. As for my slope – to be honest the regency tag comes from the person I bought it from on ebay, though they do appear to be an antiques dealer.
Some research I’ve done on writing boxes does back this up – I’ll try to explain the little bit I do know. The size and shape are more regency than later victorian (after 1830) – the regency boxes tend to be longer and thinner, while Victorian boxes tend to be more … boxy. You know what, I’m going to do a blog post on this very topic so I can add some photos to show what I mean – look out for it in the next hour or so!
